CINCINNATI (AP) — A year later, Pittsburgh still feels the sting.
All the Panthers had to do to win the Big East title last December was finish off a Cincinnati team that was in a near-hopeless situation before halftime. They couldn’t do it, letting a 31-10 lead turn into a 45-44 defeat in the final minute.
The Bearcats (4-7, 2-4) ended up with their second straight league title and a Sugar Bowl appearance. The Panthers (6-5, 4-2) have stewed about it for a year.
They come to Cincinnati on Saturday with only a slim chance to win the league title outright this time. They have to win, and Connecticut and West Virginia must lose, for that to happen.
