LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have re-signed catcher Rod Barajas to a one-year contract.
The Dodgers announced the deal Friday, a day after deciding not to offer a contract for next season to catcher Russell Martin.
Barajas finished last season strong after Los Angeles claimed him from the New York Mets on Aug. 22, batting .297 with five homers and 13 RBIs in 25 games.
The 35-year-old catcher has played for six teams in 12 major league seasons during a career that started with Arizona in 1999. He’s known as a solid defensive catcher who manages pitching staffs well.
Los Angeles general manager Ned Colletti has kept the door open for Martin’s return.
