PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Experts say farmers in Eastern Oregon have begun to report their wheat crops are yellowing, and some plants are not expected to survive.
That raises the prospect that farmers will have to replant if they expect to get a harvest next year.
So far, the reports involve about 40,000 acres in Umatilla and Morrow counties, where experts say they’re puzzled.
Extension Agent Larry Lutcher tells the East Oregonian that most of the symptoms in Morrow County are unlike anything he’s ever seen.
