VERLOT, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says searchers are being cautious to avoid avalanches Monday as they look for a hiker missing at Morning Star Peak in eastern Snohomish County.

Jack LaMont went for a day hike Saturday and was reported overdue Sunday by his wife. Searchers found his car at a trail head off the Mountain Loop Highway east of Granite Falls.

The 54-year-old Marysville man is an experienced hiker, but he wasn’t equipped to camp overnight in the snow.
