CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — A cell-phone video aired last week by a Portland TV station shows a side of Mohamed Osman Mohamud (mo-hahm-OOD) that took friends at Oregon State University by surprise.

Instead of the party-loving teen taking classes toward an engineering degree, the video appears to show someone with a deep grudge against the West.

Mohamud was arrested in an FBI sting on charges he tried to set off a bomb at the Portland Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

In the video, which KPTV says was taken last May in a dorm room at Oregon State, Mohamud says the West wants to insult the Muslim religion.

KPTV won’t reveal how it obtained the video. It is not known who recorded the video or what led up to Mohamud’s words. His attorney, the police and the FBI have refused to comment.
