DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Top-ranked Duke says freshman point guard Kyrie Irving is out indefinitely with a toe injury.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski said Wednesday that his star guard would miss “an undetermined amount of time” but that the team’s medical staff is monitoring the injury.
The school says there is no timetable for his return. The announcement on Irving’s status came in a statement issued roughly five hours before the Blue Devils played host to Bradley.
Irving injured a toe on his right foot in a win over Butler on Dec. 4 in a rematch of last season’s national championship game. He ranks third nationally among freshmen in scoring, averaging 17.4 points. Sophomore Andre Dawkins will likely get his first career start in place of Irving.
