LOS ANGELES (AP) — Drew Viney hit a tie-breaking jumper with 47 seconds remaining and Anthony Ireland made three free throws in the final moments as Loyola Marymount defeated South Dakota 72-67 on Saturday night.
Ireland had 21 points and Vernon Teel 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Lions (6-5).
Louie Krogman led the Coyotes (3-7) with 21 points. Kendall Cutler added 12 and Trevor Gruis 11.
It was a tight game the entire way, as both teams’ largest lead was six points.
Viney, who finished with 10 points, tied the game at 65-65 with a layup with 2:15 remaining. An Ireland basket gave the Lions the lead, and Gruis knotted the score again with a jumper with 1:22 to play. But those were South Dakota’s last points.
