MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — An Auburn spokesman says offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is staying put amid reports that he had been offered the Vanderbilt head coaching job.

Spokesman Kirk Sampson said Monday that Malzahn will remain with the Tigers, but did not confirm that the coach had been offered — and turned down — the Vanderbilt position.

A person familiar with the situation says Auburn will “more than double” Malzahn’s $500,000 salary. Malzahn’s will also receive a contract extension, the person tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the new deal has not been publicly announced.

Malzahn, who won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach, is also Auburn’s quarterbacks coach and works with Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.
