OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire is set to propose a new two-year budget proposal to fix a projected deficit of nearly $5 billion.

Gregoire has warned that there will be heavy cuts to state programs, including social services. She’s announced some details of her plan throughout the week, including the consolidation of several state agencies, changes to the state pension system and furloughs for state workers.

Lawmakers meet in early January to start their 105-day legislative session, and Democratic leaders in both the House and Senate will present their own proposals then.
