BYU announces Poinsettia Bowl agreement

PROVO, Utah (AP) — BYU officials said Tuesday that the Cougars will play in the 2012 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego and travel to San Francisco in 2013 for the Fight Hunger Bowl — if they’re bowl eligible and not selected by a BCS bowl those years.

The Cougars have never played a bowl game in San Francisco, but have played 11 times in San Diego’s Holiday Bowl, including 1984, when they beat Michigan to cap a perfect season and earn a national championship.

The Poinsettia Bowl will feature a top team from the Mountain West Conference each year, while the Fight Hunger Bowl will feature a Pac-12 squad vs. an independent in each of its next three games — Army in 2011, Navy in 2012 and BYU in 2013.
