EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon state gas tax will go up by 6 cents next year to 30 cents a gallon.

The hike was approved in 2009 by the Legislature.

The Register-Guard reports it was supposed to kick in after two consecutive quarters of job growth in the state or, if that did not occur, on Jan. 1, 2011.

The higher tax is expected to add more than $30 a year to the average driver’s fuel costs.
