Johnson leads Hawaii past Chicago State 86-57

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Zane Johnson scored 21 points to lead Hawaii to an 86-57 win over Chicago State on Friday night in a game played on Maui.

Freshman Bo Barnes added 17, Joston Thomas had 15 and Douglas Kurtz chipped in 12 for the Rainbow Warriors (7-2).

Carl Montgomery had 16 points and Victor Scott 12 for the Cougars (3-10).

The game, played at the site of the Maui Invitational, was the 10th away from home for the Cougars this season.

Hawaii led 39-29 at halftime after Johnson sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Johnson shot 7-for-17 from the field, including 5-for-13 from 3-point range. Barnes went 5-for-8 on 3-pointers.

The Rainbow Warriors shot 25-for-57 (43.9 percent) for the game, and all nine players who dressed scored. Chicago State shot 21-for-59 (35.6 percent).

The largest lead came when Barnes’ 3-pointer made it 83-51 with 2:48 to play.

Hawaii’s rebounding advantage was 45-31.
