What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
1
Last week, the MLB Network aired, for the first time in 50 years, the complete network broadcast of Game 7 of the 1960 World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Yankees.
This broadcast offers a rare opportunity to see how the nuances of the game have changed over the past 50 years. But one of the more obvious differences from today is the pace of the game.
In Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, there were 19 runs scored on 24 hits. Nine different pitchers appeared in the game. And the time of the contest? Two hours and 36 minutes.
In today’s game, you’d be hard pressed to have a 2-0 complete-game shutout played in 2:36.
There are many other differences you’ll notice, too. The MLB Network will re-air the broadcast at 3 p.m. today. If you get the chance, check it out. It’s fascinating.

Speaking of the pace of baseball games, did you know that the quickest nine-inning game in MLB history was a 1919 contest between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies that was completed in 51 minutes?
Fifty-one minutes?!?
Could you imagine a game today being played in 51 minutes? Fans at Dodger Stadium would show up for the game, realize that it was already the bottom of the seventh, then turn around and go home.
