Hampton holds off Towson 78-67

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Charles Funches posted career highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead Hampton to a 78-67 victory over Towson on Monday night.

The Pirates (8-2), coming off a 55-53 loss to Delaware that snapped their seven-game winning streak, shot 45.8 percent from the floor (27 of 59) and hit a season-best 11 of 20 3-pointers.

The Tigers (3-6) cut the gap to 61-55 with 6:54 left, but Funches hit two free throws and a layup. He then had a one-handed dunk over Braxton Dupree, drawing the foul and converting a three-point play to give Hampton a 68-57 lead with 5:10 left.

Darrion Pellum scored 14 points for the Pirates and Kwame Morgan II and Danny Agbelese had 12 each. Brandon Tunnell added 11 assists.

Rashawn Polk led Towson with 16 points, while Dre Conner added 15 and Dupree 14.

The Tigers shot 46.3 percent from the field (25 of 54), but were 3 for 13 from 3-point range.
