PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Washington State University has received a gift of more than $2.5 million from the estate of Barbara Bethards to pay for scholarships.

Bethards graduated in 1974 in economics and died last July at the age of 58.

She left most of her estate to fund undergraduate scholarships for students seeking bachelor of science degrees.

Bethards graduated from Shadle Park High, WSU and Gonzaga Law School. She worked 30 years at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Her gift is part of The Campaign for Washington State University, which since 2006 has raised more than $535 million toward a goal of $1 billion.
