SOCHAUX, France (AP) — American Charlie Davies is expected to stay in Sochaux although his coach advised him to seek a loan in another club.

Fourteen months after a near-fatal car crash, Davies has yet to play again with Sochaux in an official game. He was included in the squad last Sunday for a French league match but didn’t play, and he didn’t dress for Wednesday’s game.

According to France Football magazine, Sochaux coach Francis Gillot is convinced Davies won’t recover before the end of the season and needs to play at a lower level.

But Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe told France Football Davies “prefers to stay in a personal and medical background he knows and where is feels comfortable.”

Lacombe added that Davies’ departure to the Major League Soccer was not an option for the moment.
