WASHINGTON (AP) — MLS rookie of the year Andy Najar has signed a multiyear contract with D.C. United.

The 17-year-old Honduran midfielder, who potentially is eligible to play for the United States, had five goals and one assist in 26 MLS games with United this year, making him one of the few bright spots for a last-place club.

Najar is the youngest rookie of the year in MLS history and the first to come directly from the youth academy level. United signed him from their youth ranks in March.
