Maine holds off Penn State 74-64

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (AP) — Murphy Burnatowski scored 20 points and Terrance Mitchell added 17 as Maine beat Penn State 74-64 on Tuesday.

The Bears (6-5), who won their fourth straight game, led by double digits for the majority of the final 10 minutes and by as many as 15 points. Maine shot 53 percent (20 of 38) from the field. Penn State got to within seven points on three different occasions in the final four minutes but could get no closer.

The Nittany Lions shot 39 percent (20 of 57) from the field and made only 7 of 23 3-point attempts (30.4 percent).

The Nittany Lions (7-4) got 22 points from Talor Battle and 18 from David Jackson but will head into Big Ten play having dropped two straight games. No other Penn State player had more than six points.

Maine, paced by 14 first-half points from Burnatowski, led 31-24 at halftime.
