SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse has suspended defensive tackle Andrew Lewis and linebacker Brice Hawkes for the Pinstripe Bowl for violating team rules.

Coach Doug Marrone announced the suspensions Wednesday but declined to elaborate.

A defensive tackle and two-year starter, Lewis had 28 tackles, including 412 for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble. The suspension effectively ends his Syracuse career.

Hawkes, a linebacker, played in 11 of 12 games, primarily on special teams.

Syracuse has now lost six lost in the past two weeks as the Orange prepare to play Kansas State on Dec. 30 in the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl, including senior punter Rob Long, who is recovering from brain surgery.
