A good day to travel

Friday opens without obvious snarls

Friday promised to be a good day to travel in the Pacific Northwest, as moderate weather was the rule.

Going farther? Flights were running on time or ahead of time at Portland International Airport.

Parking was relatively plentiful at PDX, too, with the economy lot about three-quarters full, and plenty of space in the new long-term and the short-term garages. PDX is running a $2 off “garage sale” on its parking structures through Jan. 2, though they are still relatively expensive at $14 and $22 per day, respectively. For the latest: www.flypdx.com.

Nationally, big airports were in good shape this morning. To get the latest, visit www.fly.faa.gov.

Washington highways were in good condition, with no restrictions on major mountain passes. Traction tires are advised on White Pass. If you are in Eastern Washington, be aware that a road that looks wet could actually be covered with black ice. Washington highway information is at www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic.

A quick check of Oregon’s www.tripcheck.com showed few problems in Western Oregon. Some mountain passes have compact snow and ice on the road.
