PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — A Port Angeles caregiver has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a 95-year-old man from gangrene.

The Peninsula Daily News reports 54-year-old Laurie M. Morehead pleaded not guilty Thursday in Clallam County Superior Court and had her trial scheduled for Feb. 7.

Court documents say an infection from a neglected elbow wound caused the death in July of Robert Phelps. He injured the elbow in a fall and when he had emergency surgery three days later the doctor found dead tissue, dirt, gravel, grass and other debris in the wound.
