SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Police say they arrested a Spokane man after a standoff that lasted several hours and involved SWAT officers who used chemical agents to subdue the man.

The Spokesman Review reports that police attempted to contact 44-year-old Robert T. Finkbeiner at a Spokane house on Friday because of warrants stemming from first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm charges.

Spokane police spokesman Tim Moses says Finkbeiner refused to surrender when police arrived at the house. Moses says SWAT entered the home after using the chemical agent.

Finkbeiner was arrested along with his girlfriend, Julie K. French. She was taken on suspicion of rendering criminal assistance after telling police he wasn’t at home.
