Vancouver police used a Taser Sunday to take into custody a man who threatened to harm himself.

Police responded about 7:30 p.m. to reports the man was making suicidal threats in a home in the 2900 block of Northeast 135th Avenue, according to Kim Kapp, a police spokeswoman.

The man was armed with a knife. Negotiators spent about two hours trying to defuse the situation before Tasering him.

He was transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center to have the Taser darts removed, Kapp said.

The man was not arrested. He was, however, referred for a mental health evaluation.
