IUPUI outshoots Florida Gulf Coast in 76-63 win

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Alex Young scored 23 points and Leroy Nobles added 17 to lead IUPUI to a 76-63 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night.

The Jaguars (7-8) scored the game’s first eight points and led by as many as 10, 30-20, in the opening half after a 3 from Nobles with 4:27 remaining.

A 3-pointer from Christophe Varidel with six seconds to go pulled the Eagles (3-8) to within five, 36-31, at halftime.

Florida Gulf Coast trailed 44-41 with 16:03 left, but the Jaguars went on a 20-9 run over the next 6:12 to push their lead to 64-50.

IUPUI led by as many as 18 and no fewer than 12 the rest of the way.

Anthony Banks scored 16, Reed Baker 14 and Marlon Rivera 11 for the Eagles, who have lost seven of their last eight.

Stephen Thomas and John Ashworth scored 13 apiece and Christian Siakam grabbed 11 rebounds for the Jaguars, who shot 28 of 52 from the field (53.8 percent).
