SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A storm that has dropped more than 9 inches of snow in the Spokane area and created blizzard conditions in the Palouse region made travel tough Wednesday in eastern parts of Washington state.

While conditions in the Palouse improved by Wednesday night, the storm stalled over Spokane where a winter storm warning was extended until 4 a.m. Thursday.

As National Weather Service meteorologist Jeremy Wolf of Spokane put it, “It just will not stop.”

The official Spokane International Airport snowfall total for the storm that started Tuesday night was 7.8 inches by 10 p.m. Wednesday, but the Weather Service office had recorded 9.2 inches.

Snow showers hit parts of Western Washington on Wednesday, while hail and thunderstorms were reported Wednesday night.

Snow was falling in Washington’s Cascade Range, making travel over major passes difficult.
