Vermont defeats Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) 69-61 in OT

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Evan Fjeld scored 20 points to lead Vermont past Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) in overtime, 69-61, on Wednesday night.

The Catamounts (9-3) led 52-50 after a free throw from Fjeld with 25 seconds left in regulation. Shawn Atupem sent the game into overtime on a buzzer-beating layup.

Vermont started the extra period on an 11-2 run and led by at least five points over the final 90 seconds.

Matt Glass scored 13 and Joey Accaoui added 10 — including six in overtime — for the Catamounts.

The Mountaineers (3-11), who have lost seven games in a row, were led by Julian Norfleet and Lamar Trice with 13 points each.

Vermont dominated play on the inside, outrebounding the Mountaineers 41-34 and posting a 38-28 scoring edge on points in the paint.

The Catamounts were 26 for 53 from the field (49.1 percent), while holding Mount St. Mary’s to 38.2 percent shooting (26 of 68).
