Charleston Southern holds off High Point 77-69

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Jamarco Warren scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half as Charleston Southern defeated High Point 77-69 on Friday.

The Buccaneers’ Kelvin Martin earned his fourth double-double of the season, tying his career high of 15 rebounds to go along with 14 points.

Charleston Southern (7-7, 1-1 Big South Conference) led 35-31 at halftime, then extended the lead to eight early in the second half.

The Panthers (5-6, 2-1) got within three points twice. Leading 43-40, the Buccaneers used an 18-5 run, sparked by 10 straight points by Warren, to build a 61-45 lead with 8:33 to go.

High Point finally trimmed the gap to single digits with 1:02 to go, but Warren hit 4 of 6 free throws to seal the win.

Shay Shine scored 17 to lead the Panthers, who have lost three straight.

Charleston Southern, which evened the series at 13-13, will play at High Point on Jan. 29.
