AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Anthony Gurley scored 21 points Friday, helping Massachusetts break a four-game losing streak in a 71-54 victory over Boston University.
Gurley, a senior guard, surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for his career with the Minutemen. He also played briefly at Wake Forest, where he scored 199 points. He has a total of 1,217.
John Holland added 17 points, and Darryl Partin and D.J. Irving each contributed 12 points for the Minutemen (8-4), who beat Boston University for the 11th consecutive time.
The Terriers (5-9) missed their first 10 shots while Massachusetts took a 15-2 lead. But they passed the Minutemen, at 23-21 and 25-23, before settling on a 25-25 tie at halftime.
Massachusetts broke the game open with a 13-0 run that turned a 49-47 lead into a 62-47 advantage with 5:27 left. The Terriers went 5:38 without a point, eventually falling behind by 19 points.
