PEARLAND, Texas (AP) — Police have apprehended one of the two masked people who took hostages while trying to rob a suburban Houston bank Friday, but the other remains inside with two hostages, police said.
Pearland Police Lt. Onesmio Lopez said authorities are negotiating with the second suspect inside the Chase Bank branch.
Lopez earlier told The Associated Press that five hostages were released unharmed.
Two armed people entered the bank about 11:30 a.m. Lopez said they struck and injured the manager when he refused to open the vault. The manager is one of the hostages who were released, he said.
Businesses nearby were on lockdown as police surrounded the building and sealed off streets.
Lopez said shots were fired during the attempted robbery.
FBI spokeswoman Pat Villafranca said agents were assisting police.
