Rivard scores 17, Harvard defeats MIT 84-58

BOSTON (AP) — Laurent Rivard scored 17 points and Keith Wright had his fifth double-double as Harvard defeated Massachusetts Institute of Technology 84-58 on Friday.

Wright had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Crimson (9-3), who trailed only once, at 11-10 with 6:25 elapsed.

Harvard then used a 15-2 run to take the lead for good against its Cambridge rival, snapping the Division III Engineers’ eight-game winning streak.

The Crimson also won a school-record 15th straight home game against a nonconference opponent.

Harvard led 44-26 at halftime and by as many as 34, at 76-42 with 9:03 to go, in defeating MIT for the eighth straight time.

The Crimson shot 53.6 percent from the field (30 of 56) and 95 percent from the line (19 of 20).

Will Tashman scored 19 to lead the Engineers (9-2), who came in averaging 81.0 points, but shot just 34.4 percent from the field (21 of 61).
