GASTON, Ore. (AP) — Officials say they may have to close a small Washington County school district.
The Oregonian reports that the 465-student Gaston School District is facing declining enrollment and increased expenses.
The district must find a way to cut nearly $1 million from its $6 million budget.
Residents urged officials to look at all other options before considering a merger with a neighboring district.
Superintendent Dave Beasley is scheduled to meet again with the community on Jan. 11 with an outline of cuts that would need to be made if the district stays open.
