Folks who want to learn how the Clark County Sheriff’s Office operates, and about the local law and justice system, are invited to apply for a citizen academy.

A dozen Wednesday evening classes will run 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. starting March 3 in the Public Safety Complex and sheriff’s west precinct office at 505 N.W. 179th St., west of the fairgrounds area.

Topics will include patrol operations, K-9 units, crime scene investigation, the court system, a jail tour, the firing range, the 911 center and the Clark-Skamania Drug Task Force, according to a bulletin.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 24. Letters should provide reasons for wanting to attend the classes, full name, address, date of birth, home and cell phone numbers and e-mail address.

Applications can be mailed to the sheriff’s office, P.O. Box 410, Vancouver, WA 98666; e-mailed to valerie.deming@clark.wa.gov; or faxed to 360-397-2367.

Applicants’ backgrounds will be checked for criminal history.
