ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) — Searchers are trying to find an 87-year-old snowmobiler missing in the Cooke Canyon area of Kittitas County in central Washington.

Kittitas County Sheriff Gene Dana says Tommy Sasseen from Cashmere was snowmobiling with several friends Wednesday when he became separated from the group. The sheriff says the man had no overnight gear and limited food.

About two inches of new snow have fallen in the area since Sasseen’s disappearance.

Dana tells KIRO-TV that about 40 search and rescue snowmobiles from Kittitas and Chelan counties searched the area Thursday. The sheriff says searchers on snowmobile plan to resume the effort at daylight Friday.

If weather conditions permit, a helicopter will also be joining the search on Friday.
