YELM, Wash. (AP) — Divers have found the body of a 20-year-old Washington man who disappeared while camping in the Deschutes Falls area near Yelm. Thurston County sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin says divers hired by Jay Nelson’s family found his body Wednesday afternoon downstream from the falls.

Investigators say the young Rainier man had been camping with friends and had set up his sleeping gear Friday night on a ledge above the Deschutes River. On Saturday morning Nelson was gone, although his sleeping pad and other gear were still there.

Officers think Nelson likely have rolled off the ledge and into the water.

A search for him was conducted over the weekend.

The sheriff’s office says the property where the group went camping is a former private park that was purchased by the county and has been closed to the public for years.

Lt. Paul Counts says it’s posted “No trespassing” because it’s very unsafe.
