A human skull was found Saturday at a popular recreation site in north Clark County. A person called to report the discovery near Campers Hideaway on the south shore of Lake Merwin.

Sgt. Steve Shea with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office told KATU-TV that investigators don’t believe foul play was involved.

Shea told KATU that the skull appears to have been there “for an extended period of time.”

He said the most likely cause of death would be a drowning in Merwin Lake or a hiking accident along the lake’s rocky shore.
