AUMSVILLE, Ore. (AP) — A 13-year-old girl who helped save a woman’s life is receiving an award from the Aumsville Fire District.

Katie Pynch phoned 9-1-1 after finding Michelle Laseter trapped in a logjam Dec. 19.

Laseter entered Mill Creek after her dog had been swept downstream and was pinned to a pile of debris.

She got the dog to safety, but could not free herself.

Division Chief Corey Morrill says Laseter was up to her chest in fast-moving water and probably wouldn’t have survived if Pynch didn’t hear her call for help. Pynch will receive the award Tuesday night at the Aumsville Fire Station.
