PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The company hoping to build a liquefied natural gas terminal on the Columbia River east of Astoria hopes to begin construction later this year.

NorthernStar Natural Gas of Houston says it could complete the permitting process this summer if the National Marine Fisheries Service completes its study of whether the project would jeopardize endangered species.

The Oregonian reports federal regulators told the Fisheries Service to submit its opinion by March 8.
