JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A hospital spokeswoman says a Jackson Hole Mountain Resort ski patroller remains in critical condition after sliding nearly 1,000 feet in an avalanche.
Mark Wolling (WAHL’-ing) was being treated Thursday at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for injuries he suffered in the Wednesday morning accident.
The resort says Wolling and other ski patrollers were setting off explosives to reduce avalanche hazards in the Cheyenne Bowl when the avalanche occurred.
Another ski patroller caught in the avalanche stopped himself against a tree, but Wolling was swept along for most of the slide, including over a 25-foot cliff.
Rescuers found the 58-year-old buried in 6 feet of snow.
