OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The father of a teenage boy believed to be the victim of incest by his mother says it was the boy’s stepmother who first suspected that the boy might have been sexually abused.

The 15-year-old’s mother has been charged with first-degree sexual assault. The Douglas County Attorney’s office says the 41-year-old woman was released Wednesday on $3,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 8.

The Associated Press is not identifying the woman, or her son’s father, to protect the boy’s identity as a possible victim of sexual assault.

The boy’s mother didn’t immediately return a call Thursday from The Associated Press.

The teen’s father says his wife asked the high school sophomore about two weeks ago whether he had been sexually assaulted.
