The foreclosure rate for the Portland-Vancouver area ranked it 61st among 203 metro areas nationwide in 2009, according to a report from RealtyTrac this week.

A total of 20,017 foreclosures — default notices, auctions and bank repossessions — were filed in the metro area that includes Clark County and four counties in Portland last year. It was an 87.35 percent increase from the number filed in 2008. The report said 2.26 percent of all housing units here (one in 44) received at least one foreclosure filing in 2009. Nationwide, more than 2.8 million properties received foreclosure notices last year, a 21 percent increase from 2008.
