Can I recycle paper items, like ice cream cartons or the boxes that butter cubes come in?

Paper that is designed to go into the refrigerator or freezer and retain its shape in a moist environment contains a chemical agent called “wet strength.” These types of paper containers are not recyclable and should be placed in your garbage cart.

How do I know if the scrap metal I have is suitable for the blue recycling cart? What about helium or propane tanks?

The official rule for metal in recycling carts is that anything under 24 inches in any direction and under 35 lbs is allowed. Anything pressurized is not acceptable. If you can’t refill your propane or helium tanks, take them to a household hazardous waste collection site. You can get more specific information about these sites on www.recyclinga-z.com.
