SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Backers of a ballot measure to make it legal for medical marijuana users to buy from state-regulated dispensaries are confident they will qualify for the November ballot.

Friday at 5 p.m. is the deadline for turning in signatures.

John Sajo of the group Voter Power says they already have turned in most of the nearly 83,000 signatures they need, and expect that the 22,000 more being turned in Friday will take them over the top.

The Secretary of State’s Office has until Aug. 1 to validate the signatures.
