MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins slugger Jim Thome has hit his 573rd home run, tying Harmon Killebrew for 10th place on the career list.

Thome hit a 1-0 pitch from Tampa Bay starter Wade Davis to the opposite field in the second inning Saturday and it just barely reached the seats in left field for his ninth homer of the season.

Killebrew is one of the most beloved players in Twins history. After Thome rounded the bases, the Twins put his achievement up on the big screen and the Target Field crowd gave him a rousing standing ovation.

Thome signed a one-year deal with the Twins to chase the World Series title that has eluded him in 17 years in the big leagues. He’s been a boon for Minnesota with nine homers and 23 RBIs in just 120 at-bats.
