SEATAC, Wash. (AP) — The King County Sheriff’s office says that a 64-year-old man was suffered life-threatening injuries to his head after a rigged firework exploded, sending pieces of cinder block flying in all directions.

The sheriff’s office says the injured man’s house mate built a homemade “aerial device” by tying together a bundle of sparklers. Deputies say the 52-year-old man then put the sparklers in a tube, then in a concrete cinder block. When the man lit the device, it exploded, blasting pieces in all directions.

One of the pieces hit the 64-year-old man’s head, causing a serious injuries. Other pieces dented a car’s door and broke a windshield.
