BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. (AP) — Bainbridge school officials are trying to decide what to do with about $876,000 it expects to have left when the projects paid for by a $45 million bond are completed.
The bond was approved by voters in 2006 to replace a Bainbridge High School building, as well as the district’s maintenance facility and to pay for renovations at several schools.
Superintendent Faith Chapel says the leftover money comes from the district’s effective management of projects, plus investment earnings, state grants and some fees.
The district is considering three options: Give money back to the voters by putting it into a debt service fund, apply it to the 2009 construction bond, or pay for equipment needs that have been ignored because of the economy.
