CONNELL, Wash. (AP) — Four fights among rival gang members have prompted a lockdown of the medium security units at a Washington state prison in Connell.

A statement from Coyote Ridge Corrections Center says guards had to break up one fight Tuesday night and three more broke out Wednesday. No serious injuries were reported.

The medium-security living units have been locked down and the high-minimum custody units are on modified lockdown.

The prison in southeast Washington has been gaining prisoners since the state decided to transfer inmates to the newly expanded facility while closing portions of older prisons to save money. The state has also brought back to Washington prisoners who had been housed in other states.

The current inmate population at Coyote Ridge is about 1,800. Its capacity is about 2,500.
