BASTAD, Sweden (AP) — Top-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy has led the top four seeded players into the Swedish Open semifinals after beating Jill Craybas of the United States.
Pennetta downed Craybas 6-4, 6-4 in a rain-interrupted match Thursday. Pennetta has yet to lose a set in the clay-court tournament.
Pennetta will next face her doubles partner, fourth-seeded Gisela Dulko of Argentina. Dulko advanced when Croatia’s Ana Vrljic retired during the first set with a thigh injury. Dulko was leading 5-0.
Second-seeded Aravane Rezai of France beat Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain 6-1, 6-4, and will meet third-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the semifinals.
