SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The state has fined AB Livestock $20,000 for improperly raising 402 head of cattle that were imported from Canada.

AB Livestock, which operates a feedlot in Moses Lake, will also reimburse the state Department of Agriculture $15,000 for costs under the deal.

The state contended AB Livestock brought 402 head of Canadian cattle to Washington and released them onto rangeland, rather than to a restricted feedlot as was listed on the import documents. The firm disputed the finding, but agreed to settle the matter.

The state tested the 398 surviving animals and found no evidence of contagious diseases.
