UW Provost Wise to be interim president

SEATTLE (AP) — The University of Washington Board of Regents has picked Provost Phyllis Wise as interim president as they look for a permanent replacement for Mark Emmert.

Wise is the university’s chief academic and budget officer and also holds the title of executive vice president. She is the second-highest ranking university administrator and will be the first woman and the first Asian-American to serve as UW president.

Wise is a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine, and is a professor of physiology as well as biophysics, biology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
