CHICAGO (AP) — Kansas City Royals right-hander Zack Greinke was scratched from Sunday’s start against the Chicago White Sox because of soreness in his back right shoulder.

Greinke, the 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner, was replaced for precautionary reasons and is expected to start the first game back after the All-Star break against the Oakland Athletics on Friday.

In 18 starts this season, Greinke is 5-8 with a 3.71 ERA. In his most recent start against Seattle on Tuesday, he didn’t allow an unearned run in seven innings while striking out nine. He has won fourth straight decisions after starting 1-8.

Anthony Lerew will start in place of Greinke. Lerew is 1-2 with a 5.24 ERA in four starts for the Royals.
